King of the northern kingdom who 'did more evil than all who were before him.' Under the influence of his wife Jezebel he promoted Baal worship, drawing the relentless opposition of the prophet Elijah. He seized Naboth's vineyard through judicial murder and died in battle as Elijah had foretold.
