"the LORD has grasped" · Hebrew
King of Israel, the son and successor of Ahab. He reigned two years in Samaria. Scripture says he did evil, walked in the way of his father, his mother, and Jeroboam, and served Baal. In 2 Chronicles Jehoshaphat of Judah joined him in building ships that were wrecked, while in 1 Kings Jehoshaphat would not let the men of Ahaziah sail. After falling through the lattice of his upper room, he sent to ask the god of Ekron whether he would recover. Elijah met the messengers and sent word that the king would die. He died as Elijah had said, leaving no son, and his brother Joram, also written Jehoram, reigned.
