Peter

Originally called Simon, a fisherman from Bethsaida and Capernaum. He was renamed Peter ('rock') by Jesus, who said 'on this rock I will build my church.' He was among the first disciples called and part of the inner circle with James and John. He walked on water toward Jesus, confessed Jesus as 'the Messiah, the Son of the living God,' and at the Last Supper declared he would never deny Jesus — only to deny him three times before dawn. After the resurrection he was restored by Jesus and became the central leader of the early church, preaching the first Pentecost sermon.
