About

King of Israel, a captain anointed at Ramoth Gilead by a young prophet sent by Elisha. Charged to strike down the house of Ahab, he drove to Jezreel, shot Joram, and had Ahaziah of Judah struck down. Jezebel was thrown from a window at his word. He had the seventy sons of Ahab killed, then gathered the worshipers of Baal by a ruse and killed them. The Lord commended what he did to the house of Ahab and promised his line the throne to the fourth generation. Yet Scripture says he did not turn from the sins of Jeroboam. He reigned twenty-eight years, and his son Jehoahaz followed him.
