About

King of Judah, son of Amaziah, called Azariah in 2 Kings. The people made him king at sixteen, and he reigned fifty-two years. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. Chronicles tells that he sought God in the days of Zechariah and prospered, defeated the Philistines, and fortified Jerusalem. When he was strong his heart was lifted up. He entered the temple to burn incense, the priests withstood him, and leprosy broke out on his forehead. He lived as a leper in a separate house until he died, while his son Jotham governed. Isaiah saw the Lord enthroned in the year Uzziah died.
