"the LORD is mighty" · Hebrew
King of Judah, son of Joash, who reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, though Kings says not like David and Chronicles says not with a whole heart. He put to death the servants who had killed his father but spared their children, as the law of Moses required. After defeating Edom in the Valley of Salt he brought home the gods of Seir and bowed down to them. He then challenged Jehoash of Israel, was defeated and captured at Beth Shemesh, and saw the wall of Jerusalem broken down. A conspiracy drove him to Lachish, where he was killed.
