uncertain — traditionally "may the people multiply" · Hebrew
Scripture calls him Jeroboam the son of Joash. The numeral is a later convention.
About
King of Israel, called in Scripture Jeroboam the son of Joash, who reigned forty-one years. He did evil in the sight of the Lord and did not leave the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat. Yet he restored the border of Israel from the entrance of Hamath to the sea in the south, as the Lord had spoken through the prophet Jonah. The Lord saw how bitter Israel's affliction was, with no one to help, and saved them by the hand of Jeroboam. Amos prophesied in his days, and the priest of Bethel reported the prophet's words to the king. His son Zechariah reigned after him.
