King of Israel, son of Jeroboam the son of Joash, and the last of the house of Jehu to reign. He ruled in Samaria for six months. He did evil in the sight of the Lord as his fathers had done and did not leave the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat. Shallum the son of Jabesh conspired against him, struck him down before the people and reigned in his place. With his death the word the Lord had spoken to Jehu came to pass, that the sons of Jehu would sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation.
