uncertain — possibly "the LORD has given" · Hebrew
Also written Jehoash.
King of Judah, son of Ahaziah, also written Jehoash. As a small child he was hidden from Athaliah by Jehosheba, the sister of Ahaziah, and kept six years in the house of the Lord. At seven the priest Jehoiada crowned him, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord while Jehoiada instructed him, and he had the temple repaired. Chronicles tells that after Jehoiada died the people turned to idols, and Zechariah the son of Jehoiada was stoned at the command of Joash. His own servants conspired and killed him.
