About

King of Israel for one month, the son of Jabesh. He conspired against Zechariah the son of Jeroboam, struck him down before the people and took the throne, which ended the rule of the house of Jehu. He began to reign in Samaria in the thirty-ninth year of Uzziah king of Judah. Then Menahem the son of Gadi came up from Tirzah to Samaria, struck Shallum down there and reigned in his place. Kings passes no verdict on his brief reign. It records only his conspiracy and says the rest was written in the chronicles of the kings of Israel.
