About

King of Israel, the son of Gadi, who came up from Tirzah to Samaria, killed Shallum and reigned ten years. He attacked Tiphsah because it would not open to him, and he ripped open its pregnant women. He did evil in the sight of the Lord and all his days did not leave the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat. When Pul king of Assyria came against the land, Menahem gave him a thousand talents of silver to confirm his own hold on the kingdom. He raised it from the wealthy men of Israel at fifty shekels each, and the Assyrian king turned back. His son Pekahiah reigned after him.
