About
Israelite woman who moved to Moab with her husband and two sons. After losing her husband and both sons she decided to return to Bethlehem. Her daughter-in-law Ruth insisted on accompanying her. Bitter at her losses, she asked to be called 'Mara' (meaning bitter). She guided Ruth to Boaz and was eventually comforted by the birth of Ruth's son Obed.
