About

High priest at the return from exile, the son of Jehozadak, a name also spelled Jozadak and Josedech, and not Joshua the son of Nun. Haggai and Zechariah call him Joshua, and Ezra and Nehemiah call him Jeshua. He came up with Zerubbabel, and with him built the altar, began the house of God, refused the adversaries and rose to build when Haggai and Zechariah prophesied. In Zechariah's vision he stood before the angel of the Lord with Satan at his right hand to oppose him. His filthy garments were taken away, his iniquity was made to pass from him and he was clothed anew. Zechariah was told to set crowns of silver and gold on his head.
