A wealthy member of the Sanhedrin and secret disciple of Jesus who had not consented to the council's decision. After the crucifixion he boldly asked Pilate for Jesus' body, wrapped it in clean linen, and laid it in his own new tomb cut from the rock. With Nicodemus he gave Jesus an honorable burial before the Sabbath began.
