Wife of Amram and mother of Aaron, Moses and Miriam. Scripture calls her a daughter of Levi, born in Egypt, and the sister of Amram's father. When Pharaoh ordered every Hebrew boy thrown into the river, she hid her newborn son for three months, then set him in a basket among the reeds while his sister kept watch. Pharaoh's daughter found the child and, at his sister's word, paid his own mother to nurse him. Exodus 2 tells the story without her name, which is given in Exodus 6 and Numbers 26. Hebrews 11 counts the hiding of Moses as an act of faith by his parents.
