About
Son of Zebedee and Salome, brother of John the apostle, fisherman. With Peter and John he formed Jesus' inner circle — present at the Transfiguration, the healing of Jairus's daughter, and the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus nicknamed James and John 'Boanerges' meaning 'Sons of Thunder.' He was the first apostle to be martyred, beheaded by order of King Herod Agrippa I.
