The proud Agagite official whom Xerxes raised above all other nobles. Enraged that Mordecai would not bow to him, he cast lots (Pur) and persuaded the king to decree the destruction of all Jews in the empire. Esther exposed his plot at a banquet, and Haman was hanged on the very gallows he had built for Mordecai.
