About

Jewish woman and cousin of Mordecai who was chosen as queen of Persia after Queen Vashti was deposed. When Haman plotted to exterminate all Jews in the empire, Mordecai urged her to appeal to the king on behalf of her people. She risked her life entering the king's presence uninvited, saying 'if I perish, I perish.' Her bravery saved the Jewish people. The festival of Purim celebrates this event.
