About

King of Judah, son of Abijah, who reigned forty-one years in Jerusalem. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. He removed the idols his fathers had made and removed his mother Maacah as queen because of an image she had made, which he burned at the brook Kidron. Chronicles tells how he cried to the Lord before a vast Ethiopian army and won. When Baasha of Israel built Ramah to shut Judah in, Asa paid the king of Syria to attack Israel, and the seer Hanani rebuked him for not relying on the Lord. In old age his feet were diseased. His son Jehoshaphat succeeded him.
