About

King of Judah, son of Rehoboam, called Abijam in 1 Kings. He reigned three years in Jerusalem and warred with Jeroboam of Israel. Kings says he walked in the sins of his father and that his heart was not wholly with the Lord as the heart of David had been. Yet for the sake of David the Lord left him a lamp in Jerusalem. Chronicles tells of his speech from Mount Zemaraim and of a battle in which Judah, caught in an ambush, cried to the Lord, prevailed, and took Bethel from Jeroboam. He was buried in the city of David, and his son Asa succeeded him.
