Zacchaeus

Chief tax collector in Jericho who had become very wealthy. Being short, he climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see Jesus over the crowd. Jesus looked up and told him to come down because he must stay at his house that day. The crowd grumbled that Jesus had gone to be a guest of a sinner. Zacchaeus pledged to give half his possessions to the poor and repay fourfold anyone he had cheated. Jesus declared 'salvation has come to this house today.'
