Simeon (temple)

A righteous and devout man in Jerusalem to whom the Holy Spirit had revealed that he would not die before seeing the Lord's Messiah. When Mary and Joseph brought the infant Jesus to the temple, he took the child in his arms and praised God in the song known as the Nunc Dimittis — 'my eyes have seen your salvation' — and foretold to Mary that a sword would pierce her own soul.
