About

King of Judah, son of Hezekiah. He became king at twelve and reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. He rebuilt the high places his father had destroyed, raised altars for Baal, worshiped the host of heaven, and built altars in the house of the Lord. He used enchantments and shed much innocent blood in Jerusalem. Chronicles adds that Assyrian commanders carried him bound to Babylon, where he humbled himself and prayed. The Lord brought him back to Jerusalem, and he removed the foreign gods and restored the altar of the Lord. His son Amon reigned after him.
