About

King of Judah, son of Jehoiakim, also called Jeconiah and Coniah. He reigned about three months in Jerusalem and did evil in the eyes of the Lord. When the army of Nebuchadnezzar besieged the city, Jehoiachin went out to the king of Babylon with his mother, his servants and his officials. He was carried to Babylon with the temple treasures and thousands of captives, and Zedekiah was made king in his place. Jeremiah said that even if he were the signet on the right hand of the Lord, the Lord would pull him off. In the thirty-seventh year of his exile, Evil-merodach king of Babylon brought him out of prison and gave him a place at the royal table.
