About

Prophet to the northern kingdom of Israel in its final years before Assyria. God commanded him to marry Gomer, an unfaithful wife, and to take her back after she strayed — a living parable of the Lord's faithful love for an adulterous Israel. His book pleads for repentance and promises restoration: 'I will heal their waywardness and love them freely.'
