Third son of Aaron and Elisheba, and priest after his father. When his brothers Nadab and Abihu had died before the Lord, he and Ithamar served as priests, and he was set over the chiefs of the Levites. On Mount Hor Moses took Aaron's garments and clothed Eleazar in them, and Aaron died there. With Moses he numbered the people in the plains of Moab. Joshua was set before him, and Eleazar was to inquire for Joshua by the Urim. With Joshua and the heads of the tribes he distributed the land. He was buried in the hill of his son Phinehas in Ephraim.
