Caiaphas

MatthewLukeJohnActs
About

Jewish high priest from about 18–36 AD who presided over the Sanhedrin's trial of Jesus. When others feared Jesus' growing following he argued 'it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish' — John notes this was an unwitting prophecy. He declared Jesus guilty of blasphemy and handed him over to Pilate. He also interrogated Peter and John after the healing at the temple gate.
