About

Prophet, the son of Pethuel. The book names no king and gives no date. Joel spoke to a land where the locust had eaten what the swarm before it had left behind and the offerings no longer reached the Lord's house. He called priests, elders and people to a fast, warned that the day of the Lord was near, and urged them to turn to the Lord with all their heart. The book answers with promises of grain, wine and oil, of the eaten years restored, of the Lord's Spirit poured out on all flesh, and of the nations judged. Peter quoted him by name at Pentecost (Acts 2:16).
