Also called Shallum, "recompense" (Jeremiah 22:11).
About
King of Judah, son of Josiah, called Shallum in Jeremiah 22. After Josiah was struck down in battle at Megiddo, the people of the land took Jehoahaz, anointed him and made him king in his father's place. He was twenty-three and reigned three months in Jerusalem. Kings says he did evil in the eyes of the Lord. Pharaoh Necho removed him from the throne, laid a tribute of silver and gold on the land, and made his brother Eliakim king under the name Jehoiakim. Jehoahaz was taken to Egypt and died there. Jeremiah said of him that he would never return or see his own land again.
